Monrovia \u2014 <\/b>Community of Sant\u2019Egidio Liberia has held a Peace Prayer mass to recognize the stability of Peace that the country has enjoyed for more than two decades.<\/p>\n

The program was held at the Sacred heart Cathedral Church in Monrovia. During the event, the Apostolic Nuncio to Liberia Mons. Walter Erbi\u0300, a native of Italy, offered prayers for the country and the world, especially those places that are presently experiencing violence and war.<\/p>\n

Mr. Blamo Wreh Nimely is the Responsible for the Community of Sant\u2019Egidio in Liberia. He told FrontPage Africa after the event that the purpose of the gathering was to celebrate the uninterrupted peace the country enjoys after 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince the signing of the peace agreement, we have witnessed four different presidential elections and we have seen the transition of two powers. And so, it shows that we are on a good note of peace,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Nimely added: \u201cSo, we taught it wise to have a peace prayer in Liberia to recognize the stability and peace that we are enjoying today and to pray for peace all around the world especially those countries that are at war because once upon a time when Liberia was at war, counties also pray for Liberia.\u201d<\/p>\n

He also stressed that to have a sustainable peace, the issue of capacity building especially among the young people should not be downplayed.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cEducation is the pathway for a sustainable peace. The more we get education, the more we train the youth into education, the better we will have in society in terms of sustaining peace.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Community of Sant\u2019Egidio was established in 1968. According to Nimely, the Community of Sant\u2019Egidio played a major role by convincing the then rebel leader Sekou Damate Conneh to agree to the signing of the Accra Peace Agreement in August 2003.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was one of the groups that convinced the rebel group to go to the table for the peace agreement,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Responsible for the Community of Sant\u2019Egidio Liberia, after the war the organization was invited to Liberia because of the role played during the ending of the civil war. For more than 15 years the organization in Liberia Nimely said.<\/p>\n

He added: \u201cWe are in 70 countries around the world and Liberia is one. All around the world, the Community of Sant\u2019Egidio is characterized by the same spirituality. We put the gospel, we look at peace, we dialogue for peace. Right now, there are dialogues going out in other countries by the Community of Sant\u2019Egidio.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also put the poor in our lives because we believe that the poor are the number one victim of any conflict, and we believe peace is the solution, so we foster Love peace and prayer,\u201d Nimely said.<\/p>\n
