Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The former leader of the defunct rebel group, Liberia Peace Council, has accused the chairman of the Independent National Commission on Human Rights (INCHR), Cllr. Dempster Brown, of failing to enforce the act that established the Commission to investigate and subpoena anyone known to violate the human rights of another person.<\/p>\n

On Monday, March 18, Dr. George Boley, while speaking at a press conference, said Cllr. Brown\u2019s failure to exercise this awesome power suggests that he is woefully incompetent and has no evidence to support his (Brown\u2019s) allegation against him.<\/p>\n

Brown, during a press conference on March 9, in support of the establishment of the war and economic crimes court, accused Boley, who is former Representative of Grand Gedeh County District #2, of murdering his (Brown\u2019s) mother during the deadly civil war.<\/p>\n

Responding to the allegation, Boley said Cllr. Brown, as chair of the Commission for several years, has done nothing to investigate and recommend him for prosecution over the allegation, which power is invested into him by the law.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy has he not investigated me as mandated by the authority of the power invested in him and the commission,\u201d Boley questioned.<\/p>\n

\u201cI challenge Cllr. Brown and the purveyors of this slanderous and baseless allegation to produce the evidence, which allegation must be publicly retracted,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

According to him, Brown is a pathological liar whose behavior is both cowardly and treacherous.<\/p>\n

\u201cCllr. Brown\u2019s allegation against me, which some members of the press circulated without verification, was intended to defame me. I did not kill his mother and have never authorized the killing of anyone in my life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dr. Boley claimed that Brown chose to circulate his dastardly lies about him by using the press to aid and abet him for his selfish desire.<\/p>\n

\u201cCllr. Brown is seeking notoriety at my expense. Without attempting to get my version of the story, it violates journalism principles. This is the kind of free press we have in Liberia,\u201d Boley alleges. \u201cCllr. Brown\u2019s allegation against me is reckless, baseless, unfounded, untrue and responsible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Boley maintained that given the gravity of the allegation, the onus is on Cllr. Brown to produce the evidence rather than flirting and grandstanding with the media and bringing into disrepute the integrity and credibility of the Commission.<\/p>\n
