Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Residents of Sanoyea District #7, Bong County, are now breathing a great sigh of relief following the construction and dedication of drilled hand pumps to towns and villages in the County.<\/p>\n

The hand pumps are initiatives of Africa Heartwood Project, a grassroots nonprofit run by passionate volunteers who have learned a lot about fighting poverty.<\/p>\n

The hand pumps were constructed by Africa Heartwood Drilling and Construction Company with funding from entity donors and other philanthropist organizations in the United States of America.<\/p>\n

Presenting the hand pumps to the communities, Africa Heartwood Project Country Director, Bishop John M. Moore said the hand pump project is intended to enhance citizens\u2019 access to safe drinking water.<\/p>\n

Bishop Moore explained that he was sad to see the existence of a whole community without any single source of safe drinking water, which sometimes leads them to contracting minor illnesses like malaria and diarrhea.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe act in partnership with the downtrodden citizens to identify and eliminate specific constraints to their freedoms using sustainable, participatory, results-oriented methods,\u201d Bishop Moore said. \u201cWe are targeting ten communities in Sanoyea District when it comes to hand-pump construction and out of that number we have completed seven hand-pumps.\u201d<\/p>\n

He believes the construction and turning over of the hand pumps greatly help the community in accessing safe drinking water.<\/p>\n

The Africa Heartwood Project Country Director revealed that in those affected Towns and villages in Bong County, there has been no reliable source of safe drinking water for the inhabitants for decades, something that caught the attention of the Africa Heartwood Project to provide safe drinking water for those communities.<\/p>\n

He further said since 2021, the Africa Heartwood Project has done 136 hand-pumps in Bong County.<\/p>\n

Moore disclosed that each of the pumps costs US$3,500.00.<\/p>\n

The Africa Heartwood Project Country Director at the same time appealed to the government to see the work they are doing in the rural area to rescue them, \u200cbuttressing their efforts to construct more hand-pumps in Bong and other Counties.<\/p>\n

In separate, residents of the Sanoyea District were full of praise for the Africa Heartwood Project for addressing one of the major needs of their communities.<\/p>\n

They assured the donor that the gesture would go a very long way in the history and existence of their communities following several years of safe drinking water challenge.<\/p>\n

The Bong County citizens recounted the many challenges they encountered in the past in accessing safe drinking water, particularly during the dry season.<\/p>\n

They explained that the pumps dedicated would lessen the burden on them when it comes to getting water.<\/p>\n

\u201cMany times we find it difficult to get safe drinking water due to the limited water facility in this area, but with the intervention of Africa Heartwood Project, I am so, so happy,\u201d a resident said.<\/p>\n

With the construction and dedication of the drilled hand pumps, residents of those communities will no longer go far and near in search of safe drinking water as they did in the past.<\/p>\n

They also promised to take good care of the pumps. The turning over ceremony was done on March 22, 2024.<\/p>\n
