Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Gbarnga, Bong County-Nyla Bush, a 14-year-old philanthropist and young community activist has donated assorted medical supplies to the Phebe Referral Hospital worth two thousand six hundred eighty United States dollars (USD 2680.00) in Bong County.<\/p>\n

Nyla Bush is a resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.<\/p>\n

She is a first-generation Liberian-American who is a freshman at Willow Springs High School. Nyla has a passion for volunteering and doing community service work.<\/p>\n

The young activist is the freshman representative of her school\u2019s Key Club Chapter, a student-led organization whose aim is to make the world a better place through community service.<\/p>\n

Ms Bush is also a part of the Neurodivergent Alliance Club at her school. This organization has a mission to build a community of leaders who are committed to celebrating neurodiversity and mobilizing for disability justice.<\/p>\n

Nyla\u2018s passion for community work is complemented by her keen interest in learning about her origin and family culture. She longs to give back to the Liberian community.<\/p>\n

Speaking at the donation ceremony on March 8, 2024, on behalf of Nyla Bush, Dr. Catherine Thomas Cooper said the donation of drugs and medical supplies is intended to buttress the effort of the Phebe Hospital administration to meet the medical needs of burn victims.<\/p>\n

\u201cNyla heard about the gas tanker explosion that tooke place in Totota, Bong County, Liberia in December 2023 and felt deeply saddened by that tragic incident. She immediately decided to use the opportunity to help those victims and less fortunate people by raising funds to assist with medical supplies for hospitals providing care for the victims,\u201d Dr. Cooper noted.<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Cooper, the contribution aims to boost the provision of quality healthcare services and attend to the needs of the affected patients or other patients ensuring that they receive the necessary medical attention and care during their recovery period.<\/p>\n

Dr. Cooper at the same time expressed solidarity and also extended heartfelt prayers to all the victims of the fire accident on behalf of Nyla Bush.<\/p>\n

The proxy on behalf of the Liberia and America-based young activist further disclosed that their thoughts are with the families who have lost their loved ones adding that the global body understands the pain and sorrow that the December 26 tragic event has brought upon the community in Totota.<\/p>\n

Dr. Cooper however extended its sincere gratitude to Phebe Hospital administration and its staff for their tireless dedication and hard work in providing care to the burn victims and other patients seeking medication at the hospital in the County.<\/p>\n

In light of the tragic incident and the resulting burn injuries suffered by numerous victims, Nyla Bush made available several cartoons of IV Fluids, Normal Saline 0.9% 500Ml, Povidine iodine, Latex Examination Gloves, Metronidazole, Erythromycin, Ibuprofen, Silver Sulfadiazine + Chitosam cream, Cloxacillin among others to the Phebe Hospital management<\/p>\n

Taking delivery of the donation, the Medical Director of Phebe Hospital, Dr. Minnie Sankawolo-Ricks lauded Nyla Bush for the contribution made so far toe the hospital.<\/p>\n

She promised to use the medical supplies and drugs for the purpose intended.<\/p>\n

The Phebe Hospital Medical Director pledged the employees of the entity\u2019s commitment to supporting the healthcare delivery system and promoting excellence in patient care.<\/p>\n

Dr. Sankawolo-Ricks disclosed that only one burn victim of the Totota accident is now seeking treatment at the hospital, on grounds that the others have been discharged, but revealed that the drug and medical supplies will be used for other patients who are seeking medication at the entity.<\/p>\n

She said during the night of the Totota accident in December of last year the hospital received about 103 victims, \u2018one died upon arrival at Phebe, 65 were transferred to other hospitals, and 38 were left at the Phebe Hospital, adding they have treated 37 and the remaining one is responding to treatment.\u2019<\/p>\n
