Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>UN Women Liberia as part of an effort to promote women\u2019s empowerment in Liberia, has concluded a one-day young women leaders roundtable to discuss Generation Equality commitment in Liberia as part of the International women Month.<\/p>\n

The program was held on Thursday in Monrovia to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action in 2021 which was launched by UN Women, styled Generation Equality campaign engaging the new generation in the fight for gender equality.<\/p>\n

Generation Equality is the world\u2019s leading effort to unlock political will, build cross-sectoral partnerships, and accelerate investment to advance gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.<\/p>\n

Ms. Comfort Lamptey, Representative, UN Women Liberia, spoke at a program that brought together influential young women from the private and public sectors to discuss generational equality and its implications.<\/p>\n

Ms. Lamptey said since the inception of Generation Equality, UN Women\u2019s efforts have been focused on placing young people at the center of Beijing+25 to make sure that they are in the driving seat of all galvanizing moments and processes that will contribute to Generation Equality.<\/p>\n

According to Lamptey, the gathering provides a unique opportunity to learn about Generation Equality and share global best practices and learnings, seeking to localize them in Liberia.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis \u2018new generation\u2019 of young people which many of you belong to, born after the 4th World Conference on Women, are building back better and differently. As the global convenor of Generation Equality, UN Women brings together multiple stakeholders \u2013 including youth leaders like yourselves, civil society actors, Member States, activists, private sector companies, philanthropic organizations, and the UN system- to catalyze transformative and quantifiable progress for women and girls,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She further said Generation Equality represents a renewed promise to accelerate progress on gender equality and women\u2019s empowerment through concrete and measurable actions, as a direct contribution to the 2030 Agenda.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiberia, like other countries plays a very important role in advancing Generation Equality. The Government of Liberia has made a collective commitment to the Action Coalitions on Gender-Based Violence and Economic Justice and Rights, respectively.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis commitment, with the time frame of three years and financially valued at US$8 Million, with US$6 Million for the implementation of the \u201cGovernment of Liberia & Partners\u2019 Anti-SGBV Roadmap\u201d and US$2 Million annually for two (2) years for the economic empowerment of women and girls in Liberia, which excludes the Spotlight Initiative and other funding from partners. However more needs to be done,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
