Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has embarked on donation efforts to mosques across Liberia, as the Islamic period of fasting progresses.<\/p>\n

The donation, which includes 5,500 bags of rice and cash to the Islamic community, was officially launched on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Benson Street Mosque by Minister of State without Portfolio, Ms. Mamaka Bility.<\/p>\n

The outreach on Thursday extended President Boakai\u2019s goodwill to mosques in various communities, including Benson Street, Newport Street, Gurley Street, Salafiya, New Georgia, Chicken Farm, Black Ginnah, Fish Market, and 17th Street, Sinkor (United Dawah Ummah High School).<\/p>\n

During the launch at Benson Street Mosque, 50 bags of rice and $LD25,000 were presented to mosque leaders, with Minister Bility stating that each mosque covered in the initiative would receive equivalent items.<\/p>\n

Minister Bility conveyed the President\u2019s regards and highlighted the initiative as a testament to his dedication to all faiths, specifically targeting those in need. Stressing the importance of the donation during Ramadan, she urged Muslims to accept the offering and reflect on its significance within the context of the holy month.<\/p>\n

She underscored the value of embracing the teachings of Ramadan and praised President Boakai for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of the Liberian populace.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Imam Council of Liberia, Mohammed Kanneh, expressed gratitude to the President for the generous donation and conveyed the Chief Imam\u2019s appreciation. Imam Kanneh described the donation as generous and pledged to use it for its intended purpose, emphasizing the Muslim community\u2019s spiritual dedication to the government and Liberia as a whole.<\/p>\n

At Newport Street Mosque, Lasanah Kanteh welcomed the donation, expressing gratitude to the President\u2019s office and affirming the mosque\u2019s commitment to the nation through prayers.<\/p>\n

During the visit to Gurley Street Mosque, religious leaders commended President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for the gesture, highlighting that it was the first time in a while that the mosque had received such a significant supply from the government. They praised the timing of the initiative, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan.<\/p>\n

Similarly, the religious leaders at Chicken Farm Mosque echoed the sentiments expressed at Gurley Street Mosque. They acknowledged that while they had received gifts from previous administrations during the fasting month, this year\u2019s donation surpassed all previous contributions.<\/p>\n

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting (sawm), prayer (salah), reflection, and community.<\/p>\n
