Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>A High-power delegation from the United Nations H6 Partnership and the Liberian Legislature\u2019s Health Committee have committed to collaborate to end the death of 1,100 women in childbirth and other health-related complications in Liberia.<\/p>\n

The UN H6 Partnership is comprised of UNICEF, WHO, UNFPA, UN Women, UNAIDS, and the World Bank. It aims to support countries in achieving health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly focusing on sexual, reproductive, maternal, child and adolescent health.<\/p>\n

Liberia\u2019s Legislature and the UN H6 committed themselves to the plan on Tuesday, 30 April 2024.<\/p>\n

Also, the initiative aims at building on past achievements, addressing unfinished agenda, and integrating new strategies for improving health outcomes along the SRMNCAH continuum, an H6 scoping mission being undertaken in Liberia from 22 April to 03 May 2024.<\/p>\n

The interactive dialogue which was held in the Conference Room of the Capitol brought together over twenty-four lawmakers from the health committees of both legislative chambers.<\/p>\n

The conversation was presided over by House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa and Grand Cape Mount County Senator Dabah M. Varpilah.<\/p>\n

The diplomatic mission from the UN H6 Partnership compromises of over fourteen delegates from the respective institutions who have been in the country for a little over two weeks and have been assessing Liberia\u2019s healthcare delivery sector.<\/p>\n

The district microplanning exercise takes place during the first week of the mission (22 to 26 April) followed by engagement with government and local & international stakeholders, and community representatives for high-level advocacy on RMNCAH <\/b>in the other week.<\/p>\n

Explaining the importance of visitation and policy engagement, Dr. Anshu Banerjee, Director of the Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health, said they just wanted to highlight some of the key findings that they have taken into consideration over the last two weeks working with the Ministry of Health, and with other partners on the ground.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust to give you key data and figures on maternal, newborn, and child health in Liberia, maternal death in Liberia. 1,100 women [are] dying in Liberia in childbirth per year,\u201d said Dr. Banerjee.<\/p>\n

He disclosed that Liberia is experiencing an increase in newborn deaths of 37 per 1,000 live births…<\/p>\n

For his part, WHO Country Representative Dr. Clement Pater said the objective of the mission is to facilitate and conduct an RMNCAH micro-planning exercise to assess the current RMNCAH status, resources, and needs in selected districts in two counties through a microplanning approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlso, the expected outcome is to develop <\/b>a roadmap for the implementation of recommended interventions and policy updates for accelerating the reduction of maternal, newborn, and under-five mortality in Liberia highlighted and promoted by the mission,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
