Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>On Unification Day, the residents of Montserrado County electoral district #1 for the first time witnessed what many described as true leadership.<\/p>\n

Representative Rugie Yatu Barry, who has served the district since taking office, fulfilled numerous promises made during her 2023 election campaign.<\/p>\n

One of her key pledges was a competition to reward the cleanest town or village with one thousand United States dollars. Although the challenge was open to the entire district, only ten towns participated.<\/p>\n

Blackton Town emerged victorious with 30 points and was awarded five hundred United States dollars. \u201cThis competition encouraged communities to take pride in their surroundings,\u201d Barry said. \u201cI\u2019m thrilled to see such active participation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The scoring, based on a total of 60 points, was overseen by the Paynesville City Corporation and the Monrovia City Corporation. The remaining nine towns received sanitation materials, including a wheelbarrow, three shovels, a whipper, and a cutlass. \u201cEven if they didn\u2019t win the top prize, every town made significant improvements,\u201d Barry added.<\/p>\n

At the Capitol building, Barry highlighted her successful lobbying efforts, which secured US$100,000 for Bensonville Hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile this amount is insufficient, I am hopeful it will be increased to two hundred thousand dollars,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n

She also announced the impending arrival of a forty-foot container of medical supplies, obtained during her recent visit to the United States, which will be distributed to health facilities within the district.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis medical consignment will greatly benefit our healthcare system,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n

In her efforts to empower the youth, Representative Barry finalized negotiations with the Tuazama Foundation in the US to establish a computer school in Fendell.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative will provide basic computer skills to our young people, opening doors to new opportunities,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Barry conducted an assessment tour with the Liberia Electricity Corporation to address the electricity issues affecting a large part of the district.<\/p>\n

\u201cReliable electricity is essential for our community’s development,\u201d she emphasized.<\/p>\n

Within her first hundred days in office, Representative Barry has also emphasized transparent leadership by forming a District Development Council (DDC).<\/p>\n

\u201cWe currently have seventeen DDC members, with plans to expand to twenty-five,\u201d she said. \u201cThese volunteers, chosen for their moral standing, will work alongside my office to monitor and supervise district projects.\u201d<\/p>\n

She announced that one hundred thousand United States dollars have been allocated in the fiscal budget for district development projects, to be identified by the DDC and implemented by the Liberian Agency for Community Empowerment (LACE).<\/p>\n

\u201cOf this budget, US$10,000 will cover LACE\u2019s administrative costs, leaving $90,000 for actual projects,\u201d she clarified.<\/p>\n

Residents of Blackton and other attendees praised Representative Barry\u2019s leadership, describing her as a God-sent leader. \u201cHer dedication and efforts have truly made a difference in our community,\u201d said one resident. \u201cWe are grateful for her commitment to our district.\u201d<\/p>\n
