Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The suspect, who is undergoing medical treatment for an accident, is also awaiting police investigation for illegally carrying a firearm.<\/p>\n

<\/b>The Liberia National Police (LNP) says it has arrested a motorcyclist identified as Christian Smith for illegal possession of a firearm.<\/p>\n

In a press release bearing the signature of DCP. Cecelia G. Clarke, LNP Spokesperson, the police noted that on Saturday, 18 May 2024, at about 5 AM, suspect Christian Smith violently ran through a police checkpoint at Vamoma Junction along Tubman Boulevard.<\/p>\n

The release further stated that the responding Officers\u2019 report stated that while cyclist Smith was escaping, he ran into a moving vehicle in the opposite direction when he saw a Police vehicle ahead of him.<\/p>\n

As a result of his accident, the LNP disclosed that he sustained fractures on his left heel, knee, and ankle and was rushed to the trauma procedure room at the JFK Hospital.<\/p>\n

\u201cDuring the medical examination, he was discovered with a single barrow short gun and two rounds,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently, the accident victim, now suspect, is under police custody while undergoing treatment, pending investigation,\u201d the release concluded.<\/p>\n

In another development, the Inspector General of Police, Col. Gregory O.W. Coleman, over the weekend, honored a meeting with the Authorities of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) on health concerns over the use of helmets among multiple passengers from motorcyclists.<\/p>\n

On Friday, 17 May 2024, both institutions observed safety regulations to avoid the transmission of pathogenic organisms and ways of reducing head injuries during road traffic accidents when commuting to various destinations.<\/p>\n

IGP. Coleman and NPHIL have mandated that all motorcyclists and passengers adhere to hygiene measures, including cleaning their helmets regularly (daily, weekly, or monthly) using disinfectant sprays.<\/p>\n

Motorcyclists are mandated to avoid placing their gloves inside helmets; passengers should cover their heads before wearing helmets; passengers may choose to wear a nose mask for additional protection; and passengers who frequently travel by motorcycle should consider carrying their own helmets and sanitizer spray.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe LNP headed by Inspector General of Police, Col. Coleman, and the Director General of NPHIL, Hon. Jane A. Macauley, are encouraging the general public to remain law abiding as they expressed their commitment to the protection and safety of all residents and road users across the Country,\u201d the release noted.<\/p>\n
