Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Mining Company ArcelorMittal Liberia emberaks on road rehabilitation following protest by residents of affected communities.<\/b>
\nSeveral<\/b> affected communities in ArcelorMittal Liberia\u2019s operational areas in Yekepa, Nimba County, are benefiting from road rehabilitation work following recent mediation between the company and community residents.<\/p>\n

The work, which started early this week, is expected to reach several towns and villages around the mining town of Yekapa in districts 2 and 3 before moving to other affected districts.<\/p>\n

Residents told reporters that they are happy to see the mining company embarking on such projects.<\/p>\n

They referred to the work as a great relief, as it would help to ease their suffering due to bad roads.<\/p>\n

Residents of Yarmie town said such work will help to enhance the good working relationship between AML and the affected communities.<\/p>\n

Emmanuel Saye and Paye Domah enjoyed seeing the company involved in community development, especially roads.<\/p>\n

According to them, they have been suffering from bad roads, but this time, they are happy that the company has intervened.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis road work being carried out by ArcelorMittal, we from the affected communities are happy; this will help to reduce our suffering when it comes to the road network in our respective towns in Yarmie clan. We are very happy\u201d, residents of the affected communities added.<\/p>\n

The NEW DAWN Nimba County correspondent said the road rehabilitation work is part of the company\u2019s commitment made during the recent visit of the Minister of Internal Affairs, Francis Sikili Nyumalin, to Yekepa.<\/p>\n

Minister Nyumalin\u2019s visit followed a recent protest by affected community residents, who used Country Devils to stop ArcelorMittal\u2019s operations at various mountains in the county.<\/p>\n

Speaking recently in Yekepa, Nimba County, ArcelorMittal Liberia operational manager Andrew Taylor pledged management\u2019s commitment to working with the affected communities and Liberians, in general, to help uplift their lives and maintain peaceful communities.<\/p>\n

He also pledged the company\u2019s commitment to working with affected communities to rehabilitate farms and market roads in various communities and the county at large.<\/p>\n

The Management of ArcelorMittal also pledged at last Sunday meeting to maintain peaceful working environment with affected communities and Liberians generally.<\/p>\n

AML has committed to rehabilitating over a thousand km of roads in communities affected by its operations, thereby helping to address some of the challenges confronting them. <\/b><\/p>\n
