<\/b> The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) has frowned medical facilities in Monrovia for not being up to the task to deliver adequate Healthcare services the Liberian public.<\/p>\n

The Liberia Medical and Dental Council (LMDC) was established in 2010 by an act of the National Legislature to be autonomous with exclusive powers and authority to regulate and monitor medical practice within the Republic of Liberia.<\/p>\n

In January of this year, Dr. Benetta Collins Andrews was nominated as the Physicians\/Surgeons Representative to LMDC and subsequently elected as the Chairperson during the first council sitting, replacing Dr. Linda Araminta Birch.<\/p>\n

Speaking to journalists at LMDC Head Office in Sinkor Tuesday, Dr. Andrews said beginning June this year, her team will be carrying on what she terms as spot checks at various health facilities in Monrovia and across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn Monrovia, we have done assessments for most of the health facilities and some of the reports are not very good. After the assessment, we have to find our lawyers and the law enforcement officers will take note,\u201d Dr. Andrews said.<\/p>\n

The LMDC Chairperson added: \u201cMost of the assessment we do are the bigger hospitals. So, beginning this June, we are going to start batching into those smaller clinics to ensure that we do a spot check on them and do the needful concerning protecting and safeguarding the health of our citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also called on the Liberian public to report cases of medical malpractice at health facilities across the country.<\/p>\n

The LMDC head said with the availability of the current funds, her entity can\u2019t move all around the country to ascertain what is going on in every health facility.<\/p>\n

Madam Andrew added: \u201cHealth facilities owners sometimes are disingenuous and they don\u2019t want to come. We are begging the public, that if you see any health facilities anywhere that you suspect anything, you can directly come to us because for now, we don\u2019t have the means to move from place to place across the country, we can do spot checks If you went to any hospital and you see that things are not ok there, come to the LMDC office and report it.\u201d<\/p>\n

She stressed that her team is working closely with the Ministry of Health and has been appointed on the Broad of the Health Sector Taskforce along with other entities in the health sector.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are planning joint assessment and joint facilitation with LMHRA, Nursing Broad, Pharmacy Board and other health institutions that are supported by government. We feel that we can collect all of our little resources and do a one-time check instead of going there individually,\u201d Dr. Andrews said.<\/p>\n
