Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>For altering the 2024 National Budget Law, the House of Representatives invites authorities of the Ministry of Finance. <\/b><\/p>\n

The House of Representatives has invited the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning to appear before its leadership over claims of alteration in the 2024 National Budget Law.<\/p>\n

The House decided during its seventh day of sitting on Thursday, June 6, 2024, through a communication sent to the plenary by Rep. Clarence G. Gar of Electoral District# 5, Margibi County.<\/p>\n

Rep. Garr said the illegal alteration was made in the 2024 National Budget Law and asked his colleagues to recall it.<\/p>\n

He specifically referenced a decision to have the Public Account Committee replace the Legislative Budget Office (LBO).<\/p>\n

\u201cIt can be recalled that at the end of the 2024 national budget deliberations, a motion was made by Hon. James Kolleh of District #2, Bong County, in which he stated \u2018where all in the 2024 National Budget law are written LBO (Legislative Budget Office) it should be automatically replaced with Public Accounts Committee\u201d, which was unanimously voted upon by majority members and subsequently passed by this august body for execution,\u201d Rep. Garr recalls.<\/p>\n

He says that it will surprise them to note that at the final stage and signing of the 2024 National Budget, the law was sent without these amendments of plenary altering the decision of the Honorable House of Representatives, thus making the 2024 National Budget voidable in its entirety.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, following the floor debate, plenary agreed upon a motion from Rep. Ivar Jones, also of Margibi County, that the communication be forwarded to the House Leadership to handle the matter and that the Ministry of Finance appear with a copy of the Budget within one week. <\/b><\/p>\n
