\nThe Nimba Inspectorate of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Friday, October 4, 2024 destroyed another batch of frozen meat products from the Banjar Cold Storage in Ganta.<\/p>\n

Mr. Billy Flehn, Senior Commerce Inspector in Nimba described the frozen meat product as \u2018unwholesome\u2019 and were no longer good for human consumption.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe products did not expire, but got contaminated in the cold storage, maybe due to no electricity or the truck got broken, leaving the products to lose their quality,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

There were about 32 cartons in all that were disposed of in the public dumpsite along the Ganta-Gbarnga highway.<\/p>\n

A huge quantity of petroleum products were poured on the contaminated goods, before it was set ablaze to prevent nearby villagers getting away with the items.<\/p>\n

Weeks ago, the MoC disposed of a huge consignment of some assorted expired goods, including some frozen products in Ganta, medical drugs among others.<\/p>\n

\u201cSome of the business people were very sincere by declaring the expired goods in their storage and those who did that will be fine,\u201d he said during the first exercise.<\/p>\n

With the unwholesome frozen food from Banjar Cold Storage, it is not clear whether it was declared or discovered by Commerce Ministry agents, but the management of the cold storage provided a pickup to move the goods.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe commenced the inspection almost a month ago, covering the entire county and destroyed the first confiscated goods and are here again to get rid of this batch,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

As the picking load of the frozen items was dumped for burning, the citizens looked on in dismay, praising the Ministry of Commerce for the exercise, while others were wishing to take some away.<\/p>\n

The Banjar Cold Storage has on a number of occasions been under the spotlight for selling unwholesome products, something the manager refused to clarify the cause. Rather, he said, \u201cthe government did their work and discovered these items.\u201d<\/p>\n
