Amid the ongoing internal conflicts within the House of Representatives regarding the potential removal of House Speaker J. Fonati Koffa, former Liberian President George Manneh Weah has issued a statement denouncing the efforts to oust the Speaker.<\/p>\n

Weah, who currently serves as the political leader of the opposition Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC), accused the Unity Party-led government under President Joseph Boakai of orchestrating a \u201cconcerted and criminal effort\u201d to undermine democratic institutions by allegedly using government funds to influence the Speaker\u2019s removal.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis blatant act of political chicanery not only threatens the integrity of our constitutional legislative process but also sets a dangerous precedent for governance in our beloved nation,\u201d Weah asserted.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that such actions would not be tolerated, characterizing the move to manipulate the legislative branch for partisan interests as a direct affront to democracy and the will of the people.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Mr. Weah praised Speaker Koffa for his dedication and integrity, labeling any attempts for his illegal removal as \u201cdesperate and cowardly.\u201d<\/p>\n

In a statement issued Thursday, Mr. Weah urged members to resist participation in what he termed an \u201cinsidious plot,\u201d warning that involvement would betray the trust of their constituents and result in severe political repercussions within the party and among the Liberian populace.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must remain steadfast in our commitment to democratic principles and the right of the people to choose their leaders without interference,\u201d Mr. Weah concluded, calling for vigilance and unity in the defense of national institutions and democracy.<\/p>\n

This statement comes at a critical juncture as tensions rise in the House of Representatives, reflecting broader political divides within Liberia.<\/p>\n
