Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The MSWG will provide comprehensive, non-regulatory guidance and oversight on cross-cutting issues related to the mineral sector\u2019s management.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Mines and Energy is set to launch the Mineral Sector Working Group (MSWG) to bring together key stakeholders from the mining and extractive industries. This initiative aims to foster coordination and develop strategies for a more sustainable and vibrant management of Liberia\u2019s natural resources.<\/p>\n

The MSWG will provide comprehensive, non-regulatory guidance and oversight on cross-cutting issues related to the mineral sector\u2019s management. It will focus on enhancing policy and regulatory frameworks, ensuring environmental conservation, and improving relationships between the government, industry actors, and civil society.<\/p>\n

According to a release from the Ministry, the MSWG will coordinate its activities through a secretariat, facilitating constructive dialogue among sector participants. The group will aim to strengthen partnerships between various government institutions and organizations that focus on environmental protection, health, human rights, and gender issues. It will also support rural livelihoods, generate revenue for the government, and improve communities while promoting a sustainable mining sector.<\/p>\n

During the launch event, Mines and Energy Minister Wilmot Paye, who chairs the newly established working group, will formally inaugurate the MSWG. Senator Simeon Taylor, Chair of the Senate\u2019s Committee on Mines and Energy, will deliver the keynote address.<\/p>\n

Since assuming office, Minister Paye has played a pivotal role in organizing and coordinating several technical sessions at the Ministry, working to build consensus among stakeholders in the mineral sector.<\/p>\n

The launch of the Mineral Sector Working Group is scheduled for Friday, October 18, 2024, at the Ministry\u2019s compound in Monrovia.<\/p>\n
