Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>ArcelorMittal Liberia has announced that two of its committed employees have died as a result of injuries they sustained in a rail accident in Nimba County on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

During the early hours of Tuesday, January 11, 2022, around Kilometer 196 in Nimba, a rail equipment carrying maintenance crew came in contact with loaded wagons stationed on the rail line, resulting in serious injuries to six AML employees.<\/p>\n

The two staff succumbed to death after they were evacuated by helicopter to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia. According to an ArcelorMittal press statement, a full investigation has been launched into the cause of the accident.<\/p>\n

ArcelorMittal Liberia\u2019s emergency response and technical teams responded and the injured were evacuated from the scene for medical care. \u201cIt is with the deepest sadness that ArcelorMittal Liberia announces that two of its committed staff have succumbed to their injuries after being medically evacuated by helicopter to hospital,\u201d the press release said.<\/p>\n

The press statement quoted AML as saying that it will continue to work closely with the dedicated medical professionals to treat the injured, and has put in place plans for possible evacuation of the injured to neighboring countries for advanced medical care, if recommended by doctors.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, ArcelorMittal Liberia has temporarily suspended rail operations and will continue to support its employees in this terrible period of grief, according to the release.<\/p>\n

The company has at the same time extended its deepest sympathies to the families of the deceased, and solicits the prayers of all for the recovery of their colleagues as they are being cared for in hospital, the release concluded.<\/p>\n
