Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The West African College of Surgeons (WACS) is expected to host its 62nd Annual General Conference in Liberia bringing together 800 Specialized Surgeons from the Sub Region of Africa to provide medical coverage for citizens across the nation.<\/p>\n

According to Prof. Dr. Robert M. Kpoto, Country Representative of WACS, the conference will be held at the Ministerial Complex and will run from March 18th-24th, 2022, adding that it will commence with a pre surgical outreach where the Surgeons or Specialists will be operating patients from all over the country who have struggled with illnesses that could not otherwise be treated by Liberian Surgeons.<\/p>\n

WACS is a professional organization that promotes education, training, examination and research in surgery in Africa. The college is the first organization to promote surgical subspecialty training in the region. It awards diplomas of fellowship in surgery and is one out of two bodies that accredits institutions to train surgical residents in member countries.<\/p>\n

WACS is an association of more than 5,000 Surgeons from 15 countries (French\/English), it was established more than 60 years ago and its purpose is to improve the health care delivery system in the respective country of the sub-regions.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kpoto, who spoke Thursday at the Ministry of Information regular press conference, noted that the pre-surgical outreach will run from the 18th-20th of March while the actual scientific conference is where skills, knowledge as well as research papers will be exchanged.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kpoto mentioned that countries in the sub-region do a rotational hosting of the forthcoming conference every year, and it is a national issue that was first hosted by Liberia in 2012 during which he served as chairman.<\/p>\n

He noted that the upcoming conference is sponsored 100 percent by the Government of Liberia and the budget has been approved already by the Legislature.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would like to highlight that during this conference, the President of the Republic of Liberia, George M. Weah will be honored as a patron and for the first time in Liberia will be admitted at WACS,\u201d he disclosed.<\/p>\n

Dr. Kpoto noted that the organization has already contacted county health representatives to start recruiting people with illnesses that will be treated by the Surgeons that will be coming to the country. He encouraged the press to broadcast the event prior to its commencement so that Liberians will be informed about the pending opportunities.<\/p>\n
