Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Chief Executive Officer of Jungle Water group of investments, Floyd Tomah, has emphasized that training of customs officers is key to building a digital ecosystem in customs, the Liberia Revenue Authority(LRA) says.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need more awareness from LRA to taxpayers as per the different rules governing customs, tax payment etc\u201d, Mr. Tomah urged when he addressed Customs officers here, during celebration of the 70th International Customs day.<\/p>\n

While stressing the need for data collection, he called on businesses to digitize their sales and transactions to enable the Liberia Revenue Authority to collect lawful revenue more efficiently.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the LRA Commissioner General Thomas Doe Nah says digitization of customs activities is a move aimed at modernizing the country\u2019s tax administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cData collection\u201d, he explains, \u201cis key to our work and that\u2019s why we need more citizens\u2019 engagement exercises to inform our people.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mr. Nah stressed that data collection is not only good for making policies but it also promotes efficiency and transparency in tax collection.<\/p>\n

At the same time, Customs Commissioner Saa Saamoi noted that data collection brings about predictability and said projections can improve and promote revenue generation.<\/p>\n

The World Customs Organization (WCO) dedicates International Customs Day to shaping a more sustainable and constructive business environment and exploring forward-looking solutions.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s celebration was held in Gbarnga, Bong County, under the global theme, \u201cScaling up Customs Digital Transformation by Embracing a Data Culture and Building a Data Ecosystem\u201d.<\/p>\n

The occasion was graced by the joint security in the county, including Liberian customs officers and officials and their Guinean counterparts from the border.<\/p>\n

International Customs day was instituted by the World Customs Organization (WCO) to commemorate the day in 1953 when the inaugural session of the Customs Cooperation Council (CCC) was held in Brussels, Belgium.<\/p>\n
