Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Senator Jeremiah Koung of Nimba County is recommending a special account in the National Budget to be used only for compensating whistleblowers of drugs dealers.<\/p>\n

His recommendations came on the back of a request from Senator Steve Zargo of Lofa County and Senator Abraham Darius Dillon of Montserado County who had under AOB of Tuesday\u2019s agenda for discussion the Newkru Town stampede and situation of under privileged youths commonly referred to as \u2018zogos\u2019.<\/p>\n

In defense of his argument, the Nimba County Senator said that if such practice is applied to the drugs dealers and smugglers, it could help curtail the infiltration of drugs into the society that is destroying the country young generation.<\/p>\n

\u201cColleagues, believe me, if such method is introduced, we will have a reduction in the level of drugs that come to our country. Survey showed that Liberia is a safe haven for these drugs dealers and Grand Cape Mount County is one of the polarized counties for the transport of drugs,\u201d Sen. Koung stated.<\/p>\n

Also Speaking, Senator Saah Joseph of Montserrado County criticized officials of the Ministry of Youths and Sports for failing to introduce programs that could address the issues that have stood and continue to stand as challenge for the development of youths.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issues about youth development are not about budgetary support, it is about people focusing and knowing what they are doing,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Montserrado County Senator also accused a director at the Ministry of Youth and Sport of looting the Youth Center in Bentol City, the capital of Monterrado County but failed to state the name of the director.<\/p>\n

He recommended the separation of the youth component of the Ministry and creation of a youth development ministry.<\/p>\n

Senator Joseph craved the indulgence of his colleagues to invite the Minister of Youth and Sports to explain to the Senate his plan of actions and commitments made by donors.<\/p>\n

For his part, Senator Varney Sherman of Grand Cape Mont County is suggesting the establishment of a commission of inquiry that would include seven members of the Senate with subpoena powers to investigate privately and publicly. \u201cIf we don\u2019t focus on a way on moving forward of this situation, we will continue to move in circles and achieving nothing,\u201d Senator Sherman stated.<\/p>\n
