Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>A weekend rally by the governing Unity Party has sparked heated debate among Liberians, with citizens expressing sharply contrasting views on its relevance. Many say the country is facing serious economic and social challenges.<\/p>\n

On Monday, Dec 8, 2025, in Monrovia, Lassana Fanta Kromah strongly criticized the government, arguing that the rally highlighted misplaced priorities.<\/p>\n

According to him, the Unity Party came to power promising rescue but has instead focused on constructing party headquarters while ordinary people struggle.<\/p>\n

He said Liberians expected investments in \u201cschools, hospitals, and services to solve the financial hardship,\u201d but instead, the party appears to be \u201cignoring the crisis and enriching themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n

Also speaking, Albert Critical Moore Sr. also condemned the rally, describing it as \u201cmocking the Liberian people.\u201d<\/p>\n

He argued that with young people unemployed and several societal issues unresolved, celebrating a party gathering sends the wrong message.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey said bread and butter issues were important, but nothing has changed. Children are still selling in the streets, drugs remain a problem, and development is slow,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n

For his part, R. Alvin Q. George stated that the turnout was lower than expected because many citizens are dissatisfied with the government\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n

He added that the rising cost of living, unemployment, and concerns about corruption made a political rally \u201cunnecessary at this time.\u201d<\/p>\n

CDC Papay said they failed the Liberian people. Boakai isn\u2019t doing what he promised.<\/p>\n

Alfred M.K. Kromah described it as \u201cone of the most successful and mature rallies ever,\u201d praising the organization and the president\u2019s responsiveness to national issues.<\/p>\n

He admitted the government still needs to improve in health and education but believes President Boakai is committed to addressing challenges.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not a glory singer,\u201d he said. \u201cWhen the government does wrong, I\u2019ll speak. When it is done right, I\u2019ll speak too. The president is working, listening, and identifying problems to solve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fasu Kromah called the rally \u201celectric,\u201d arguing that political analysts considered the crowd \u201cone of the largest ever pulled by a ruling party.\u201d<\/p>\n

He emphasized that the event aimed to celebrate the construction of party headquarters while assuring Liberians that bread-and-butter issues \u201cwill always be addressed.\u201d<\/p>\n

The debate surrounding the rally shows a deeply divided public.<\/p>\n

To some, the event symbolized unity, progress, and party strength.<\/p>\n

To others, it served as a reminder of unfulfilled promises and ongoing hardship.<\/p>\n

As Liberia continues to face economic pressure, rising prices, and youth unemployment, citizens remain eager for concrete action from the government.<\/p>\n
