Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The Liberia Telecommunications Authority has announced a major initiative aimed at empowering local digital creators, unveiling a two-day monetization training in collaboration with global tech giants Meta Platforms Inc. and TikTok.<\/p>\n

The training is scheduled for May 6\u20137 at the Bella Casa Hotel on 3rd Street, with participation limited to 150 content creators selected in partnership with the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism and the Ministry of Youth and Sports.<\/p>\n

Boosting Liberia\u2019s Digital Economy<\/p>\n

According to the LTA, the initiative targets a wide range of content creators, including comedians, storytellers, reaction video producers, and challenge creators\u2014individuals whose work centers on engaging online audiences.<\/p>\n

The training is expected to provide practical tools for content development, while also introducing participants to monetization pathways that could transform digital creativity into sustainable income.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis initiative is designed to help Liberian creators tap into the growing global digital economy,\u201d the LTA said in its release, noting that social media monetization can break traditional barriers to employment and entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n

Meta Leads Monetization Push<\/p>\n

The program builds on earlier engagements between LTA officials and Meta executives in Lagos, Nigeria, led by LTA Chairman Clarence Massaquoi.<\/p>\n

Meta, which operates platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Threads, has already activated monetization tools in several African countries, including Ghana.<\/p>\n

Training sessions under Meta will cover content strategy, audience engagement, ethical standards, and monetization requirements such as age limits, compliance with community guidelines, and follower thresholds. Participants will also engage in hands-on content creation exercises.<\/p>\n

TikTok Highlights Structural Gaps<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, TikTok\u2019s involvement follows meetings between LTA Commissioners Patrick Honnah and Ben Fofana and company representatives in Nairobi, Kenya.<\/p>\n

Despite its popularity\u2014especially among younger audiences\u2014TikTok monetization remains largely inaccessible across Africa due to structural challenges. These include the absence of comprehensive data protection laws, limited payment infrastructure, and underdeveloped advertising markets.<\/p>\n

The LTA noted that currently no African country fully meets all the requirements needed to unlock TikTok monetization.<\/p>\n

Application Process Underway<\/p>\n

The application process will be managed by the Department of New Media at the Ministry of Information. Interested participants must apply in person between April 13 and April 17, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Applicants are required to submit a written statement outlining the type of content they produce and how the training will enhance their work.<\/p>\n

Expanding Opportunities for Creators<\/p>\n

The LTA emphasized that the training responds to growing demand among Liberian creators seeking to monetize their online presence. While attendance is capped at 150 participants, the sessions will also be live-streamed to reach a broader audience.<\/p>\n

At the end of the program, participants will receive certificates of participation.<\/p>\n

The Authority expressed optimism that the initiative will improve content quality and position Liberian creators to compete globally, while contributing to the country\u2019s emerging digital economy.<\/p>\n
