Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>The construction of major roads have once again resumed across Nimba County, enhancing the movement of goods and people.<\/p>\n

The two major road networks include, Sanniquellie-Loguatuo Road and Ganta-Saclepea Road, which were stalled since 2023.<\/p>\n

The two road projects speedily went on under the leadership of the CDC led government but came to a complete standstill after the 2023 election, leaving many citizens disappointed in the new leadership.<\/p>\n

The Sanniquellie-Loguatuo Road Project was at about percent when it got stalled. It is one of the strategic trade routes for Liberia, it linked Ivory Coast, where nearby all our imported agriculture and not assorted goods entered Liberia.<\/p>\n

The previous construction work constructed all the bridges along the road, including the bridge over the Cestor River, which divides Liberia and the Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n

Accordingly, the road was funded by African Development Bank and the Bank of Euro, but the Bank of Roto withdrew due some construction bad practices carried out by the Chinese construction firm, China Railway Groups of Company, which involves environmental degradation and among others.<\/p>\n

The finishing works mostly include, back filling of bridges, connecting some places, drainages along the road and in towns and villages along the road.<\/p>\n

It was anticipated that the security post, including both custom and other security apparatuses will be relocated in a modern – international standard, but it is not at this time whether modernization will surely go ahead \u2014 because the Daily Observer could not establish the cost of this latest finishing portion.<\/p>\n

However, the Ganta-Saclepea Road corridor is back on track and has seen robust progress since last year and stands at about 80% to 90% finished, making Ganta, Saclepea and Tappita cities more accessible now than ever.<\/p>\n

The groundbreaking was done in the 2020 by former President George Weah, with funding from the \u2018National Road Fund\u2019.<\/p>\n

The project started speedily at the time and before the 2023 election the project had reached about 60%, surprisingly the project stalled until early this year when VP Jeremiah Koung said the government had allocated approximately US$3.5 million to the contracting company (CICO) for this project.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Seclapea-Tappita Road corridor under the construction of China Railway Seventh Group of Company is nearing completion. Finishing touches such as drainages in cities, road or traffic signs and others are currently taking place in Saclepea nad Tappita.<\/p>\n

But criticism of the narrowness of the main streets in Saclapea Tappita is still a concern among some engineers and well-meaning citizens.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not seeing any design at this intersection, where Bahn Road is connected, as well as the Tonwim Junction and the road is narrow,\u201d said one Deacon Gondoun, a resident of Saclepea.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis main street should be like Ganta or other places, where there will be access for cars to park and there will be access for other vehicles to ply the street,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Sanniquellie-Yekepa Road remains in limbo, as there is no sign of any pavement. It was explained years back that the Senegalese contracting firm, \u2018CSE\u2019, had withdrawn all its equipment to Jeremiah Farm to avoid payment for areas they were occupying during the construction from Ganta to Sanniquellie.<\/p>\n
