Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Authorities of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Authority (LERA) are expected to re-appear before the Liberia Senate on tomorrow, February 16, 2022.<\/p>\n

The Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022 resolved that it\u2019s Plenary constitutes itself into a \u201cCommittee of a whole\u201d and handles the numerous issues in the electricity sector during the Wednesday\u2019s hearing.<\/p>\n

The Senate\u2019s decision was necessitated by concerns raised by Grand Bassa County Senator, Nyonblee Karnga- Lawrence, informing plenary of LEC inability to provide stable electricity in the country.<\/p>\n

The Grand Bassa County Lawmaker expressed her dissatisfaction over the distribution of electricity to the consumers, which, according to her, has led to conflicts in various communities in Monrovia and its environs.<\/p>\n

During the debate, Senators in session expressed the need for LEC and its regulatory authority to address said issues with facts by explaining why they have not been able to equally distribute electricity to its citizens.<\/p>\n

The electricity authorities will also address the Nine Million United States Dollars owed by the Liberian Government for allegedly failing to pay for the usage of current from the West Africa Power Pool from neighboring Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n

Grand Gedeh County Senator, Zoe Emmanuel Pennue had earlier communicated with the Plenary seeking an investigation of said debt owed by the Liberian Government to the Ivorian Government for unpaid used of Electricity in Maryland and Grand Gedeh Counties, respectively.<\/p>\n

The Grand Gedeh Lawmaker in his communication described as untrue for citizens in Grand Gedeh County to refuse the payment electricity bills.<\/p>\n

According to Senator Pennue, there have been separate accounts created by LEC Personnel in the County and wants a full scale investigation before clearing unpaid alleged debits.<\/p>\n
