Members of the Monrovia City Council (MCC) have unveiled a mobile App EWallie, as a new platform for the collection of tax payments across the country.<\/p>\n

The city council in Monrovia says the new mobile app is to ease up the tension on entities struggling to pay their taxes and is also meant to enhance transparency and accountability in the collection of the city government revenues.<\/p>\n

The Mayor of Monrovia Jefferson T. Koijee explained the new mobile app is a decision from members of the city council to enhance transparency in the collection of taxes, and EWallie is a Liberian- owned mobile money payment introduced by a Liberian entrepreneur.<\/p>\n

He made the announcement during celebration of 43rd Monrovia Day held on theme: \u201cRekindling City Heritage for urban Resilience.\u201d<\/p>\n

The event is observed on February 16 each year by the Monrovia City Council, consistent with the appropriate laws and ordinances establishing the city.<\/p>\n

Since the end of the civil war, the city has relied heavily on donations from international<\/p>\n

development partners to sustain its operations.<\/p>\n

However, since the current council took office four years ago, supports from international partners have eroded significantly, triggering the council to seek out innovative and sustainable ways to enhance revenue collection while ensuring service delivery to residents.<\/p>\n

The council believes this will boost revenue collection and bring about transparency to revenue management.<\/p>\n

Mayor Koijee: \u201cMoving towards full automation, we are poised to acquire a user-friendly software that will serve as an enabler for improved accountability, transparency and productivity for municipal growth.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said the service would afford residents of Monrovia to report real-time (convenient payments from anywhere at any time), adding \u201cWe are looking forward to working with our partner in modernizing tax payment through the eWallie App.\u201d<\/p>\n

eWallie is Liberia\u2019s first 100% native e-payment + e-commerce platform dedicated toward making<\/p>\n

payments easy for people of all walks of life. The application is suitable and user-friendly for the well-off, the educated, semi-educated and uneducated people.<\/p>\n

The CEO of eWallie Inc. Mr. Abdullah L. Kamara said the Board of Directors of eWallie are excited and pleased with the decision of the Monrovia City Council, promising to be a strong and effective partner.<\/p>\n

According Mr. Kamara, the platform helps uplift and empower Liberian businesses, youths and schools.<\/p>\n

He added that the app also helps in proper financial managements such as micro savings and micro loans.<\/p>\n
