Africa-Press – Liberia. <\/strong><\/span>Angry motorcyclists destroyed market tables and threw stones at marketeers at the Vai town general market in Kakata after a commotion between a motorcyclist and some marketeers.
\nThe incident occurred Saturday, February 19, 2022 at about 9Pm when motorcyclists accused the marketeers of beating one of their men for reportedly wasting rice that was being sold on the roadside.
\nIn retaliation, the motorcyclists set ablaze market tables and hurled stones at the marketeers who, along with buyers, fled for their lives.Eyewitness recounted that market women in the Vai Town Market, on Saturday, normally sell on the road that leads to many communities including the City Clinic, and the government-run C.H. Rennie Hospital in Kakata. The sellers crowd the road, making it difficult for Motorcyclists and pedestrians to use the road.
\n\u201cA motorcyclist came with his bike, demanding that he wanted to use the road that the sellers’ goods are placed on, but the sellers denied him from passing through,” an eyewitness narrated. “So he started to force his way in. During that process, he wasted the rice of one of the sellers. The sellers, angry at what the motorcyclist had done, wasted no time grabbing him and started beating on him.
\n\u201cAfter the police intervened and carried them for an investigation, the motorbike boy was found to be in the wrong, so they placed him behind bars and set the Market women free. That is how his Colleagues got angry and started demonstrating, throwing rocks at the market structure and burning the market women’s tables,\u201d they explained.
\nMeanwhile, Police in Kakata have set Monday, February 21, as the date for investigation into the matter.<\/p>\n
