Kulamba festival cancelled

Africa-PressMalawi. The Chewa Kulamba Cultural Festival, which was slated for August this year, has been cancelled due to the surge in Covid cases in many African countries.

It is not the first time that the cultural festival— which brings together Chewas from Malawi, Zambia and Mozambique— has been cancelled. Last year, the ceremony, which started in 1984, was also put on hold due to the same pandemic.

Coordinator for Chewas in the three countries, Senior Chief Lukwa, said the ceremony would be held next year. “Kalonga Gawa Undi said we should pass the message to all the Chewas that the pandemic is wreaking havoc on the world, especially in Zambia, and he wants every Chewa to follow precautionary measures during this time,” he said.
