Africa-Press – Malawi. he Malawi Government through the Ministry of Health has received 277,080 consignment of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine. The Minister of Health Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda and the Japanese Ambassador to Malawi Satoshi Iwakiri received the donation at Kamuzu international airport in Lilongwe on Saturday, February 26, 2022.

Making the donation,Japanese Ambassador Satochi said the vaccines are his government offer through the COVAX Facility. Satochi said Japan has donated 30 million doses to developing countries to help them reach out to their communities.

He said Japan has also donated 19trilion to 39 countries in world and they are expect to bring in more soon. The ambassador added that Japan managed to vaccinate 80 percent of their population.

Receiving the donation, Heath Minister Kandodo applaud the Japanese government for the donation as it will help in the fight of COVID-19. Kandodo call upon those that had the first dose only to visit the nearby clinics next week to get the second dose and be fully vaccinated.

She said the large numbers of vaccinated citizen will help to apply the mask down rule as other countries are doing. The minister added that citizens who are fully vaccinated whether with Astrazaneca or Johnson johnson can also boost their vaccination status by getting Pfizer . Currently 700,000 Malawians has the first Astrazeneca doses.
