Power Market Limited dismisses fears of hiking electricity tariffs

Africa-Press – Malawi. The country power sourcing agency, Power Market Limited (PML) has dismissed worries that electricity prices may go up. The public fears comes as the company took over the function of sourcing power from generators.

PML Director of Marketing and Corporate Services Villant Jana told The Maravi Post that the company do not have the mandate to raise electricity prices as the mandate is with Malawi Energy Regulatory Authority (MERA).

In 2020 government established Power Market Limited (PML) solely responsible for sourcing powers from generators such as EGENCO and other Independent Power Producers to sell to ESCOM for transmission and distribution. However the coming of PML as a single buyer company has raised fear among the citizenry that electricity prices may go up.
