Malawi Parliament endorses Rizine Mzikamanda as new Chief Justice

Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Parliament on Monday, March 14, 2022 consented the appointment of Rizine Mzikamanda as new Chief Justice. This follows the retirement former Chief Justice Andrew Nyirenda.

Mzikamanda who was the Former Director for Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for two years, served as judge, Resident Magistrate, Principal Resident Magistrate, Chief Resident Magistrate, Deputy Registrar and Senior Deputy Registrar of the High Court.

The August House confirmed the Justice Mzikamanda with two-thirds of members present in the chamber according house standing orders. Minister of Justice Titus Mvalo said the newly appointed justice joined judiciary in 1983 and has held positions in various judicial offices until when he was appointed judge of the High Court in 1997 and later Justice of Appeal in 2012.

Mvalo said his previous appointments include chairperson of the Special Law Commission on Child Rights, Secretary if the Commission of Inquiry on the Mwanza road accident. Mzikamanda holds a Bachelor of Law from the University of Malawi (UNIMA0 and Master of Law from the University of Hall, England.
