Africa-Press – Malawi. Opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Deputy National Director of Women, Hyasinta Chikaonda on Saturday, March 26, 2022 joined Malawi Congress Party (MCP).

MCP is main key partner in President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse government. MCP Central Region Chairman Patrick Chilondola officially welcomed Chikaonda at the party’s headquarters in the capital Lilongwe.

The former Dzedza East lawmaker Chikaonda says decided join MCP wanting support the current leadership in transforming the country. “I have decided to take up another challenge; I have returned to my original party. I am ready to render my full support to the current government,” she has said.

Chilondola believes Chikaonda’s return and other people’s desire to join MCP speak volumes about the confidence they have in the party’s leadership. “When a lot of people are joining a party, the party becomes strong on the ground; so, we are happy with Chikaonda’s return,” he has said.

Chikaonda served as a legislator for Dedza East from 2009 to 2014. She lost in both 2014 and 2019 parliamentary elections to Juliana Lunguzi (MCP) and Patrick Bandawe, independent respectively.
