
Africa-Press – Malawi. President Lazarus Chakwera’s Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youth league member, Chipiliro Kaliyopa sent stir warning to reveal names of party gurus involved in police school recruits saga.
The warning comes after social media reports that Malawi Police Service were investigating him for soliciting bribes for recruitment processes. This follows some suspected MCP youth who were dumped at Lilongwe Police after being removed from Kanjedza police training camp for not being on the list of legitimate trainees.
MCP spokesperson Maurice Munthali even confirmed that some party members claimed that they paid as much as MK150 000 to Kaliyopa for the recruitment. Surprisingly, Malawi police are yet to arrest him weeks after reports were rife that the law enforcers were hunting him.
Clad in the party colours and accompanied by two party youth members who were turned back from the police training camp, on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 Kaliyopa told the news conference at his home village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Mazengera, Lilongwe rural that the only crime he has committed was to help the youths who are suffering in the country and collected no money from them.
He denied allegations of soliciting bribes but admitted he helped some party youth members on logistics to go for the training. According to Kaliyopa, the youths only paid a sum of MK37 000 which was used for their Transport to Kanjedza Police Training School and other logistics.
“We gather that there were some arrangements outside police system for the MCP youth to get into training camp but some internal rivalry in the party has rendered a section of the youth victims hence they were removed from the training,” he discloses.
Kaliyopa, who is planning to hand himself over to the Police tomorrow also told the media that he is surprised that the youths were sent back home without being arrested despite the Police claiming that the youths had fake papers.
He added further that after the youths were sent back from the training school, he wrote the Party Headquarters notifying the office on the happenings and he said one Pastor from the headquarters responded to the letter that their concerns were sent to President Lazarus Chakwera.
Kaliyopa said however, that the President did not respond to the letter. One of the recruits, who was sent back Loveness Kansulu from Ntchisi said she was surprised to be sent back as she is qualified and went through all the required processes.
Kansulu disclosed that while they were in training school, one Monica Mdala who is deputy commander at Kanjedza police training school came and collected their offer letters telling them the letters were fake
She said, ” We did not pay MK150,000 to Kaliyopa as its been said in social media, instead, its him who helped us with logistics arrangements to Blantyre to get back offering letters for training which we were denied to take them back”.
.According to her, one Mr Maluwa from Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC) was also calling them to return saying the OPC would rearrange their recruitment.

The Maravi Post understands that among the group that was turned back totaling to 40, have been replaced with party and police official relations who did not even attend oral and written interviews for police recruits.
