Africa-Press – Malawi. In an effort to eradicate polio, government has managed to vaccinate three million children country wide in three months this year. Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda disclosed this on Tuesday, April 26, 2022 during the launch of Global polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) 2022-2026 strategy investment case launch.

Chiponda said in the next weeks Malawi will continue the vaccination process targeting 20 million children including the neighboring countries. She said millions more have been reached in the countries of Tanzania, Mozambique and Zambia.

The minister said the collect vigilance will bring swift end to the world polio and protect gains against the disease that Africa fault so hard to achieve.

She said the country managed to achieve eradicating of the disease with the continued support from polio program. She therefore said that Malawi will continue committed to stop polio.

Malawi commenced polio vaccination campaign after one girl from Lilongwe paralyzed by imported polio virus. The polio program is championed by World Health Organization (WHO) and Global polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI)
