Africa-Press – Malawi. TNM Super League champions Nyasa Big Bullets sweated to overcome newcomers Rumphi United 4-1 at Kamuzu Stadium Sunday. The win allowed Bullets to reduce Blue Eagles’ lead at the top to two points after the police side opened a five-point gap on Saturday following their 2-1 win over Sable Farming.
Bullets have 20 points two behind Eagles, having played eight games each. Forget the scoreline; Rumphi were resilient in the first 20 minutes, stopping Bullets from utilising their chances.
Midfielder Chimwemwe Idana put Bullets ahead in the 28th minute before Hassan Kajoke doubled the lead 10 minutes later. Last season’s top goal-scorer, Kajoke, completed his brace in the 50th minute from the penalty spot.
Youthful Patrick Mwaungulu completed the rout in the 78th minute while Trouble Kajani scored Rumphi’s face saver. Rumphi Coach Elias Chirambo blamed the loss on what he termed as “poor officiation”.
“My players were frustrated in the first half because of poor officiation. In the second half, officiation improved; so, did our play. But it was part of our game plan to hold them in the first half,” he said.
Bullets Coach Kalitso Pasuwa was pleased with his side’s display saying “Rome was not built in a day”. “It was not easy to unlock Rumphi in the early stages of the game. We had to be patient to create and utilise our chances,” he said. In another match, Karonga United beat Mafco 1-0, with Josiah Duwa scoring the lone goal.
