Africa-Press – Malawi. Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (Escom) has embarked on the last phase of migrating prepaid meters for some 100,000 customers to the new Supply Group Code.
Escom Public Relations Manager Kitty Chingota on Tuesday said the exercise targets customers whose meters were not migrated to the new SGC in the initial exercise, which took place in 2018.
She urged customers whose electricity meters use the old system to have them migrated by May 23 2022 when the exercise will end. “Meters to be migrated are those with code 901065 on their receipts. These customers will receive a 3-step Key Change Token upon purchase of electricity units,” she said.
The exercise is meant to enhance service delivery by ensuring safety of electricity units transactions, Chingota said. She then urged customers on the old system to ensure that they load all electricity tokens by the deadline.
“We advise customers to load the tokens into the meters in the order they are printed; starting with the first Key Change Token, followed by the second Key Change Token and, lastly, the electricity units token,” Chingota said. She said, after the once-off exercise, the affected customers shall be receiving the usual one token per transaction after buying units.
