Africa-Press – Malawi. Despite his old age to run the government, the Former President Professor Arthur Mutharika says he is still receiving a lot of calls from people who want him to contest for the 2025 Presidential Elections so that he returns in government.
Mutharika who lost 2020 fresh Presidential Elections to Chakwera is quoted in an interview with Voice of America that the calls are from religious leaders, chiefs, his party members and many Malawians who want him to come back in government and completes all development projects he started. He says people have trusted him enough that he is only a leader who can change Malawi into a better nation hence the calls.
“I am receiving a lot of calls from several people including religious leaders and chiefs that I should contest in the 2025 Presidential elections so that I return in government. This is just a sign that Malawians are not enjoying the current government and want me come 2025 Presidential elections with more development projects,” claims Mutharika.
The DPP leader says the current government has failed to deliver even a single of its campaign promises,but instead,worsened the county’s economic status.
He however, says he will respond to the calls soon whether he is going to contest or not. Mutharika was declared winner of the 2019 presidential elections but his opponents Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima went to court.
The results were nullified by the Constitutional Court in 2020 which resulted in the holding of the 2020 fresh presidential elections in which Chakwera and Chilima were elected president and vice president respectively.
