Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi Parliament is expected to spend MK108 billion in the five years of implementing its new strategic plan for the period of 2021-2026. This is the fourth’ five-year strategic plan that Parliament has developed since 2006.
The new strategic plan which was launched on Wednesday, August 3, 2022 its overarching goal is to be a parliament that works to attain the aspirations of the people of Malawi.
Lawmakers are also expected to benefit from the strategic plan as it aims at providing guidance to the current cohort as well as the next cohort in developing their own strategy.
Speaker of Parliament, Catherine Gotan Hara said the plan will define how Parliament intends to contribute towards the national overarching objectives as enshrined in the Malawi implementation plan 1 and the Malawi 2063.
She said the strategic plan will help Parliament to have input and feedback from all sectors of life helping them to have a national budget that reflect the life of people.
The Speaker said the strategic plan seeks to collaborate three arms of government without necessary suffocating each other. In his remarks Leader of the house, Richard Chimwendo said the strategic plan will provide direction on how to guide Parliament.
Chimwendo said the plan will help to house to priotize laws that responds to the needs of Malawians. He call upon all the stakeholders to join hands in supporting the implementation of the plan.
Parliament managed to work on the strategic plan in collaboration with African Institute for Development Policy (AFIDEP) United Nations Development Funds(UNDP), Action aid and other two consultancy.
