Africa-Press – Malawi. Save the Children has commended chiefs in Zomba for the strong partnerships that they formed with the communities which help them to implement sponsorship program.

Director of programs for Save the Children Frank Mwafulirwa said this on Friday, September 2, 2022 during cerebration of 13 years of save the children sponsorship program in Zomba which is set to move to Ntcheu.

Mwafulirwa said the project in Zomba started in 2008 and they have been implementing sponsorship funded packages of interventions to enable children learn and develop to their full potential.

He said the program has covered 57 primary schools, 235 Community Based Childcare Centers (CBCC), 6 health facilities and 69 Youth clubs. Mwafulirwa said the program covered Early Childhood Care and Development, Basic Education School Health and Nutrition Adolescent Development and livelihood programs.

Echoing on the same, First Lady, Monica Chakwera said sponsorship program testimonials that were made are those of an envisioned future from hopelessness to hope and success.

Chakwera said Communities have been empowered to participate meaningfully in development work for the good of their children and for national development.

She said caregivers and parents have been empowered to value education, health, child nutrition, early stimulation, early learning, and enterprise for self and national development. The First Lady applauded Save the Children for the untiring support in the endeavor of uplifting the lives of vulnerable children.

She therefore commended save the children for helping her in her education as she happens to be one of the needy student at Likuni girls secondary school and humbly accept the Ambassadorship for the Save the Children Abwenzi A Ana Programme. The commemoration was cerebrated under a theme 13 years of Breakthrough and Transformation lives of children.
