Africa-Press – Malawi. Nyasa Big Bullets Coach Kalisto Pasuwa and his charges were left humiliated and shell-shocked after they succumbed to their first loss in the 2022 TNM Super League.

The defending champions and league leaders finally tasted how defeat in the league feels like when they went down to Mafco 1-0 at Dedza Stadium Sunday.

For the better part of the match, Pasuwa stood on the touchline with his hand on his chin figuring solutions to unlock a stubborn Mafco defence but failed to produce anything close to what has seen the team winning 18 matches and drawing seven.

It was a timely reminder that if you plan and execute a game-plan well, Bullets can be turned into an ordinary team too. Zikani Sichinga scored the lone goal midway in the first half to hand the Salima-based soldiers a massive win over Bullets.

A determined Mafco came out with all guns blazing to end Bullets’ unbeaten run and at no point did the league leaders seriously threaten to salvage a point.

After the final whistle, Bullets players were left dejected and embarrassed as their 25-match unbeaten run came to a sudden halt at a fully packed stadium.

Bullets should otherwise be thankful to have lost by a narrow margin as they hardly attacked. The People’s Team spent most of the time in its own half.

Bullets fullbacks Gomezgani Chirwa and Precious Sambani hardly overlapped while midfielder Chimwemwe Idana did not tick. In short, Bullets playing on a rough and bumpy surface were perpetually absent and did not tick in most departments.

Bullets goalkeeper Richard Chimbamba was the busiest, making some saves to prevent further damage. Top goal-scorer Babatunde Adepoju was also off-form but he had a chance to salvage a point for Bullets late on but missed.

Mafco Coach Stereo Gondwe said his charges were determined to end Bullets’ unbeaten run. “We got a lot of motivation when we realised that Bullets were still unbeaten in the league,” he said.

Bullets Coach Kalitso Pasuwa conceded defeat. Following the loss, Bullets remain top with 61 points from 26 games while Mafco are sixth with 46 points from 28 games.

In other matches played Sunday, Gastin Simkonda was on target when Moyale Barracks defeated TN Stars 1-0 at Mzuzu Stadium while Silver Strikers beat Kamuzu Barracks 2-1. Karonga United beat Red Lions 3-2 Red Lions.
