Africa-Press – Malawi. Mighty Mukuru Wanderers have released 10 players as part of their restructuring process ahead of the new season. The players are Muhammad Sulumba, Joseph Balakasi, Ted Sumani, Pilirani Mapira, Bongani Kaipa, Francis Mlimbika, Aubrey Maloya, Adeleke Kalawole, Lloyd Mugala and Ephraim Kondowe.
A statement signed by Wanderers Spokesperson Clement Stambuli confirmed the development yesterday. However, Sulumba, who was Wanderers’ top goal[1]scorer with 15 goals in the TNM Super League last season, has clinched a deal with unnamed Vietnamese club.
Meanwhile, the Nomads announced their 25-member squad ahead of the season. “The Board of Directors of Mighty Mukuru Wanderers Football Club (2021) Limited is informing the general public and all stakeholders that it acquired and maintained the services of the following players,” reads the statement.
The squad comprises six new players namely striker Gaddie Chirwa, defender Lawrence Chaziya, attackers Mphatso Kamanga, Christopher Kumwembe, fullback Emmanuel Nyirenda and goalkeeper Dalitso Khungwa.
Afana Amin has been promoted from their Reserve side. Veteran striker Chiukepo Msowoya, Richard Chipuwa and Alfred Manyozo Jnr are also in the squad. Attacking midfielder Yamikani Chester, who nearly left the club after he failed to agree terms, is also part of the 25-member squad.
After unveiling the players last week, Wanderers Company Secretary Chancy Gondwe said they want to keep a lean squad. “We want to have a manageable squad of 25 players,” he said.
However, he said the club was not done yet on the player transfer market as they will likely sign one or two big players before the start of the season. The Nomads won the Airtel Top 8 Cup last season for the first time after beating Nyasa Big Bullets 5-3 on post-match penalties.
