Africa-Press – Malawi. The Malawi Red Cross Society (MRCS) says door-to-door vaccination is key to meeting the country’s 70 percent vaccination target. It says the strategy has proven effective in cities such as Mzuzu.
MRCS Saving Lives and Likelihood Project Coordinator Lekani Nyangulu said, since September last year, 2,000 people have been vaccinated in Mzuzu City. He said this in Mzuzu City when Red Cross volunteers mobilised people from townships as part of the Covid vaccination campaign.
“Following people in their homes is proving to be successful. Our role, as MRCS, is to create demand for the vaccine using volunteers who are almost everywhere in the country.
“So far, we are happy with the response because people are coming forth to get vaccinated. Our role is to mobilise people for vaccination. We create demand and are happy that the response has been overwhelming,” Nyangulu said.
Village Head Mvalajembe, from Msongwe in the outskirts of Mzuzu City, said misconceptions about the vaccine delayed him and his subjects to get vaccinated.
“We just had fears that the vaccine might have negative implications on our lives but our fears have been put to rest,” Mvalajembe said.
