Extreme FC takes Civo Stadium as home ground for Super League games

Africa-Press – Malawi. The celebration about having the team playing in the elite league and the anticipation to watch big teams playing in Mchinji has ended in tears for the sports fraternity in the district.

The newly promoted TNM Super League outfit, Extreme FC proposed Dimba ground at Kapiri-Mchinji and St. Gabriel Medicals ground in Namitete either to be their home ground, however, after the first inspection by Football Association of Malawi (FAM) they declared both grounds unfit.

Then Extreme FC approached Civo Stadium management in the Capital Lilongwe to consider them using the facility as their home. On March 7, 2023, the two parties reached at an agreement that Extreme FC will be playing home matches away from Waliranji, Mabvwere at Civo Stadium.

Prosper Chisale the Chairman of the club confirmed about the development but assured the supporters that they may use Aubrey Dimba ground Kapiri-Mchinji in the second round when some areas outlined by FAM are fixed at the private owned facility.

“I can confirm about the development, but our supporters must not lose hope as we may use Dimba ground in the next season, so yes their dreams to watch games in Mchinji are not shuttered yet. Indeed this will increase costs to our club as we are still searching for sponsors”, Chisale lamented.

“On the conditions which the Civo Stadium management have given us, we will call upon our supporters and civic educate them on how to behave at the stadium during and after games, this is the elite league and is differently advanced from the Premier Division”, he added.

Grant Longwe Civo Stadium manager while confirming about the signed agreement said they have given Extreme FC some conditions which if broken the contract will be instantly terminated.

“We have discussed and agreed quite a number of issues, but the prime condition is the security and maintainance of the facility hence we have told them to tell their supporters to be well disciplined and avoid vandalism during games. For any violence, we have told them, the contract will be terminated. We want people to enjoy games”, said Longwe .

He added the conditions have not been posed to Extreme FC only but also Kamuzu Barracks and Civil Service United FCs who also uses the same facility. Extreme FC got promoted into the elite league after winning the 2022/2023 Chipiku Stores Premier Division championship.

Extreme is the are the first team in history to play in the elite league from Mchinji. Facebook This site uses Akismet to reduce spam. Learn how your comment data is processed.
