Africa-Press – Malawi. Salima Secondary School boys football team has landed safely in Durban, South Africa ahead of CAF Schools football Championship slated for 5th and 8th April 2023 at the King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, Durban, South Africa.
The team qualified after finishing as runners up to Clapham High School of South Africa in the COSAFA Schools Championship which took place at the Bingu National Stadium in the capital Lilongwe in November 2022.
Malawi Schools Sports Association (MASSA) President Blackson Malamula said the team landed safely in the rainbow nation. Malamula however sounded upbeat ahead of the game that the team will do better and win the championship.
“The tournament is very important as it will give exposure to the boys,not only that but also interaction with their friends from other nations. We have youthful squad. For the Flames to start doing good, we have to put much efforts to the youths.
“The boys have trained together for so long as this is the same team which finished on position two in November at BNS. We are optimistic that will do better and win the championship”, assures Malamula.
14 teams for both boys and girls will to take part at this year’s CAF Schools Championship.
The Motsepe foundation has pumped in US$10 million in prize money for the tournament, making it comfortably the richest School’s event on African soil. Winners in both categories (boys and girl) will receive US$300,000 with the runners up get US$200,000.
