Why least developing countries continue to be poor?

Africa-Press – Malawi. Experience shows that poor management of natural resources, substandard governance, and under-investment in education and human resources are associated with slow growth rates and low real per capita income.

Poor countries still remain poor. The poor countries of the world, with few exceptions, have remained poor or become poorer. The poor countries are not homogeneous; they vary in their depth of poverty, quantity and type of resources, population density, and other aspects.

Africa is so underdeveloped. The lack of transparency, accountability, safety and the rule of law; the often bloated public sectors and squeezed small businesses; patriarchy masquerading as religion and culture; high unemployment rates and, recently, jihadism destabilizing the Sahel region – all these factors are keeping Africans poor.

One of the most popular suggestions for the origins of the term ‘Africa’ is that it is derived from the Roman name for a tribe living in the northern reaches of Tunisia, believed to possibly be the Berber people. The Romans variously named these people ‘Afri’, ‘Afer’ and ‘Ifir’.

Poverty rarely has a single cause. A range of factors including rising living costs, low pay, lack of work, and inadequate social security benefits together mean some people do not have enough resources.

There are several nations which are poor and so impoverished in the economy that they largely depend upon other countries for the resources such as food and raw materials etc. People in several poor countries are now dependent on the rich.

Concerted efforts by rich nations to help the poor would improve local and national social cohesion; reduce the threat of excluded social groups undermining social and economic stability; create economic opportunities; reduce the likelihood of public health problems and pandemics; and reduce the rates of migration.

On January, 20, 2017, the Center for Global Development released a ranking of 27 of the world’s wealthiest countries on their dedication to policies that help alleviate poverty. The following countries had the best record for helping the poor. Rank Country (1) Finland (2) Denmark (3) Sweden (4) France

However, the drawback is that many African leaders, although they went to school but they are just bandits and thieves. They steal from the donor funds, public purse as well as stealing directly from the pockets of the poor citizens through deposits for services some African governments cannot provide.

Hence, Africa still remains at the same position where it was during independence. Unfortunately, some of the countries in Africa have even moved further backwards more poorer than they were before independence making it much worse than ever before.

Finally, I want to agree with someone who recently said, and I quote , “Africans are not fit to rule themselves at national level because they keep destroying the economy. Whenever Africans are not satisfied with something, they resort to destructive protests where they would want to break everything in their view including roads. The best leadership for Africans is at village level where they can settle land disputes and others of such calibre.” End of quite The above statement may sound rude but there’s some truth in it !
