The call has been made by the Mayor of the City his Worship Richard Banda on Tuesday March 7, 2023 at the City’s Civic offices Chamber during the press briefing, in the Capital Lilongwe.

He said the Lilongwe City Summit which will be first of its kind will have impact on how to develop and beautify the City that happens to be the Capital of Malawi.

“It is a privilege to have this summit as Lilongwe City being the first time to be done, citizens have brilliant ideas that if taken into account they can help improve the face of the City hence the idea of organizing the summit so that every stakeholders attend and give out their ideas.

“I’ m urging all the stakeholders, residence, Private partners to be part of the summit and share different ideas which will help to beautify and develop the city. After this summit we believe there will be a lot of changes within the City”, said Banda.

In his remarks Chief Executive Officer for Lilongwe City McCloud Kadamanja said the main aim of the summit is to discuss challenges many people have been complaining such as hygiene, poor infrastructures, street vending among others.

“The summit will give platform to the citizens and City Council officials to map the way forward on how to develop and deal with other challenges. As City Council, we saw it important to come up with the initiative as on our own we can’t manage to address all the challenges, let the citizens know that the development of the city is not only in the hands of City Council but also in all stakeholders and citizens”, Kadamanja highlighted.

The first ever Lilongwe City Summit will be conducted under the theme “MY CITY MY RESPONSIBILITY, TOGETHER BUILDING THE CITY WE WANT and will dwell on four pillars which are: Waste Management, Street Vending, Greening and Leisure and Infrastructure development.
