“Chakwera’s Tonse alliance promises were bunch of garbage”-Mutharika

Africa-Press – Malawi. Former president Peter Mutharika has described Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse Alliance promises as “bunch of garbage”. Mutharika argues Malawians now are realizing that “they made a mistake to vote the Tonse Alliance to govern Malawi” given the challenges facing now.

The former Malawi leader therefore disclosed that Malawians now want the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) back to govern the country and revamp the economy.

He is speaking at the DPP Blue Night fundraising dinner and dance in Blantyre on Saturday, March 11, 2023. The dinner dance meant to fundraise for the party’s operations ahead of the elections in 2025.

He says among other things, the party needs resources to bounce back into power in the next poll. Thereafter he publicly indicated that he is likely to relinquish the DPP presidency ahead of party’s convention.

Mutharika says delegates at the party’s convention need to vote for a right candidate to represent the party in the next polls. Mutharika has hinted that the country needs an economic expert to revive the ailing economy.

He says the party needs to have a candidate who is wise and understands how to govern the nation. The opposition DPP will go for elective convention in July this year to have presidential candidate for 2025 Malawi polls.
