Africa-Press – Malawi. The Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services has indicated that rainfall quantities will be lesser this month than the previous one. It indicates that less than 350 millimeters of rain will fall in the month of February.
This is contained in a rain forecast for the month of February, which the department released on Monday. It also says most parts of the country will experience prolonged dry spells this month.
“During February, it is likely that most areas of Malawi will experience normal to below-normal rainfall, and there is also a high risk of prolonged dry spells during this month,” the statement reads.
Meanwhile, agriculture policy expert Kareem Longwe has warned stakeholders to prepare for potential challenges associated with dry conditions to minimise the adverse impact on various sectors including agriculture.
“We must stop depending entirely on rain-fed agriculture,” Longwe said.
