Africa-Press – Malawi. Blantyre Sports Club (BSC) is today expected to tee off the inaugural Winter Tour Golf Championship.
Rainbow Paints Limited is the tour’s gold sponsor, with Apple Guy taking up the silver sponsorship. BSC golf captain Mike Juma said Amaryllis Hotel, Royal Medical Centre and Samsara Group are also supporting the tour.
Juma said golfers in the Pro-Am and Championship divisions would compete over three days, whereas golfers in divisions A and B and the seniors’ and ladies’ categories will take to the field for two days.
“Basing on the success of the inaugural competition, we will make the tournament an annual event on Golf Union of Malawi’s calendar.
“We have set a goal to host at least three championship-level tournaments each year to provide golfers with experience that mirrors international standards. The Winter Tour adds to our growing portfolio alongside the Blantyre Open Championship and the Summer Tour,” Juma said.
The Winter Tour follows the recently launched Summer Tour Championship.
Speaking on behalf of the sponsors, Rainbow Paints Head of Marketing and Communications Bruno Silas said they were delighted to support golf development in the country.
“We are excited to support this new tournament and engage with the golfing community. It is an honour to be the inaugural sponsor. We believe that this tournament presents a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with the key audience,” Silas said.
He added that golf as a sport is well followed and enjoyed by most of Rainbow Paints’ clients and potential customers.
“Therefore, this event allows us to engage with them in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. We see it as a chance to strengthen existing relationships and build new ones,” he said.
Meanwhile, the organisers have disclosed that over 100 golfers have registered to compete in the event.
BSC chairperson Sophie Mlumbe will perform a ceremonial tee-off to officially mark the start of the tournament.
