MSCE examinations start today

Africa-Press – Malawi. Malawi National Examinations Board (Maneb) statistics show that the number of candidates who are expected to sit this year’s Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations has increased by 14.37 percent.

At least 202,940 candidates are expected to sit the examinations, which are scheduled to start today.

Last year, 177,434 candidates sat the examinations.

Out of the candidates that are sitting this year’s examinations, 97,489 are female and 105,452 are male.

Meanwhile, Civil Society Education Coalition Executive Director Benedicto Kondowe has said the increase in the number of candidates could mark a positive development, reflecting growing access to secondary education.

“This is a strong indicator of both government and community-level efforts to keep learners in school, particularly under challenging socio-economic conditions,” Kondowe said.

However, Kondowe cautioned that the surge in candidates must be matched with adequate investment in examinations administration, infrastructure and support systems to ensure that quality is not compromised.

On his part, Bwaila Secondary Deputy Head teacher Edna Alice Chilambo said all was set for this year’s MSCE examinations.

“All is set for this year’s MSCE examination at our school. We expect that all candidates registered will show up for the examinations,” Chilambo said.

The examination will run until 25 July.
