Africa-Press – Malawi. State Vice-President Michael Usi has called for transparency on climate change financing if countries such as Malawi are to realise meaningful benefits.

Usi made the remarks on Monday during a bilateral meeting with European Union Commissioner for Climate Finance for Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States, Wopke Hoestra, at the ongoing 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FfD4) in Seville, Spain.

On his part, Hoestra concurred that climate change could only be effective if all countries moved at the same pace.

“The EU would like to get more clarity on climate financing from countries such as Malawi and find effective ways of how the EU could assist,” Hoestra said

The Vice President is leading a delegation to the UN conference on financing for development and has lined up a number of bilateral meetings with countries such as Sweden, Norway, Luxembourg to discuss issues such as the possibility of extending support to Malawi and areas of further cooperation.
