Africa-Press – Malawi. Netball Association of Malawi (Nam) has announced that it will hold an elective annual general meeting (AGM) at Riverside Hotel in Lilongwe on August 23.

This follows the impending expiry of the current executive committee’s term, having been duly given mandate to complete the tenure of the previous committee.

The window for nominations opened on July 7 and closes on July 21.

KHUNGWA-KAUMA—
Nomination forms must be signedNam General Secretary Yamikani Khungwa-Kauma said they expect aspirants and affiliates to work together for the good of the game.

“We are pleased to announce the call for upcoming elections for the Executive Committee, and we invite nominations from qualified individuals in line with Article 24.2 (a) of our constitution,” she said.

Khungwa-Kauma said all executive positions were up for grabs and asked aspirants to meet the guidelines.

“Persons wishing to contest for any position such as president, vice president, general secretary, vice general secretary, treasurer and vice treasurer should submit their nominations no later than July 21.

“On eligibility criteria in accordance with article 24.2 (d), aspirants must have the ability to effectively communicate in English and be able to attend and hold meetings with both local and external sports administrations.

“They must express their interest in writing, complete with a nomination form. They should also include a CV and brief biography. Nomination forms must be signed by the nominee expressing his/her willingness to accept the position for which she/he is nominated,” she said.

The current Nam leadership came in as an interim committee after the previous committee stepped down following pressure from affiliates over governance issues.

The interim committee was then given the full mandate until the end of tenure.

Netball analyst Dalitso Chinyama said the committee had done well in calling for the elective AGM.

“It is time to take stock of what the association has achieved. It is achievements that will campaign for them. Everyone is able to see the difference. Most importantly, holding an elective AGM within the stipulated time is very important,” she said.
